We Feel Fine – Analyzing the feelings of Bloggers everywhere- Just Amazing!

Link to We Feel Fine WebsiteSometimes you come across something that is just … astonishing. Imagine, every day, web robots scour the major blogs on LiveJournal, MSN Spaces, MySpace, Blogger, Flickr, Technorati, Feedster, Ice Rocket, and Google. looking for people who have expressed how they are feeling. Some 15,000 to 20,000 a day are captured including the full quote and data extracted from their publicly viewable profiles. If there is an image in the post then that is saved as well.

From the profile page, they can often extract the age, gender, country, state, and city of the blog's owner. Given the country, state, and city, they can then retrieve the local weather conditions for that city at the time the post was written. They extract and save as much of this information as possible, along with the post.

A Java applet displays the last 1500, and can be drilled down by, Feeling (happy, sad, depressed, etc Some 5,000 different!) , Age (in ten year increments – 20s, 30s, etc.) , Gender, Weather (sunny, cloudy, rainy, or snowy), Location (country, state, and/or city) and Date (year, month, and/or day).

The user interface is snappy, responsive and very well done and lets you isolate pictures and quotes. This project (which was not done for any particular reason or anything) is quite remarkable. There's loads more to see. Most unusual and different but highly recommended!
