Virtual Museum – Open 24 Hours
If there is one thing the UK does really well, it's museums. You find them on nearly every street! Joking aside, there are a lot of museums – not just the big ones in London like the V&A, Science Museum, Natural History but many smaller ones. The site promotes publicly-funded UK museums, galleries, archives and
heritage attractions and seeks to get the message about Britain's culture to a broad online audience nationally and worldwide.
There is a lot here- a good starting point is the City Guides. Each city has a page full of information about museums on each city presented in a colourful, easy to read and informative way. The city trails are an excellent way to see many museums in one go. Some have free downloadable MP3 audio guides for portable players. Use the Venues and Listings to find museums outside the cities.
My own complaint- this is great for England and Wales but no Scottish or Northern Ireland coverage. That apart, and hopefully it will get rectified some time this is a terrific site and highly recommended.
