The Deep- Book + Photos
99% of the space where life can develop on the earth is in the seas, with an average depth of just under 4Km. When you get real deep where daylight is never seen, nature has evolved some truly odd and bizarre looking life forms- to cope with the immense pressures and lack of light. Not just fish but vegetation. Only 5% of the sea bed has been mapped- there are probably many more species yet to be found. I do wonder if such adaptations might give a clue as to the nature and appearence of extraterrestial life if we ever encounter it on other planets.
This site promotes the book "The Deep" by Claire Nouvian and has a nice showcase of some of the 220 photos from the book, of the rare species, many never seen before.
