Imagine a sideways scroller rendered in 3D- that's what you've got. Actually it woulod be pretty terrible to play as your visibility is severely affected- but it looks very impressive on this youtube video with an ingame Mario view! (No Monsters though- shame!).

Its's just the first level, but uses 3D renditions of the actual graphics and was done for part of a university course.
