Silly Molecule Names
Who says Chemists have no fun. They get to drop sodium and potassium into water- that's a reaction that always gets a reaction and give molecules silly names as this web page on the website of Bristol University's chemistry department shows.
The picture er depicts a molecule called Arsole…
and it's a ring! It is the arsenic equivalent of pyrrole, and although
it is rarely found in its pure form, it is occasionally seen as a
sidegroup in the form of organic arsolyls.
The great thing is that all the silly names on this page are real. Cummingtonite- cracks me up. Yes that is a real mineral- I checked this site and there it is! Light brown prismatic crystalline aggregate of cummingtonite with radiating structure.
