Redeeming the Swastika
[[imgred:swastika.jpg:Link to Heathersworld:center:0]]Long before the Nazis misappropriated the swastika and produced their own version of it (known as a HakenKreutz or Hooked Cross) it was a well known and used symbol in Hindu, Jain and other religions. Heathenworld have collected many examples of it plus a brief history. Ironically the Nazis used the clockwise version which to Buddhists means away from God. The traditional symbol has legs pointing anti-clockwise because this symbolises Fortune and Well being.
It's use a symbol of fascism/naziism is why it is banned in Germany today. Warning, Heathenworld has a few examples of Hakenkreutz so if you're in Germany…
