Physics of Gyroscopes and Boomerangs
As a kid I was into both gyroscopes and boomerangs. Friends of my parents brought me back a decorative boomerang that I wasn't allowed to throw. However I did get bought an amazing device, made of two small 'planks', more like a cross than a boomerang shape. The 'planks' had aerofoil profiles and were connected by a plastic sleeve and this thing could fly hundreds of feet in great curves. Inevitable it got lost on a neighbour' roof.
Dr Hugh Hunt of the Department of Engineering at Cambridge University has a page on Gyroscopes and Boomerangs. It's not all theory but includes practical advice on making boomerangs as well as videos and information about Gyroscopes, including a link about the Laithwaite Royal Institution lecture in 1974 where professor Eric Laithwaite conjectured about weight loss in gyroscopes, a very contentious subject (anti-gravity!).
While haphazardly laid out there is a great deal of stuff here so if you're interested…
