NHS Big Opt Out Campaign (UK Patients)
The NHS is building a massive central database which will have all of your medical details on. Over 1.3 million people will have access to this database including high street pharmacies and contract staff working in the NHS. Also a private company in Warwickshire. Anything you disclose to any doctor, nurse, midwife, health visitor, health professional, NHS employee, pharmacist, at any hospital, surgery or clinic will be stored on this massive central government database. Even sensitive procedures such as abortions/terminations are sent to this private company. At the present time your GP records do not leave your GP surgery, nor do your Sexual Health/GUM Clinic attendence medical records leave the clinic. In future, even if you choose to “lock down” your medical records or place sensitive information in “sealed envelopes”, this will all still be sent to the private comapny and distributed without your consent.
Your medical confidentiality is at risk due to this new database, as potentially millions of NHS employees and central government bureaucrats will have access to not only your medical records but also your demographic details—name, address, NHS Number, GP details, phone number (even if it’s ex-directory) and mobile number.
There is no opt out whatsoever for your demographic details. You can only have them hidden in special circumstances if the police or social services request it—if, for example, you are victim of domestic violence. Pharmacists will also be able to access this information. The only way to stop your demographic details being available nationally is to have them ’stop-noted’.
You can however write to your GP requesting that they do not supply details to the NHS spine as it's called.
