Need Inspiration in Role Play or Writing?

Link to Seventh SanctumI could have done with this 20 odd years ago, back when I used to run Dungeons & Dragons games and created computer games. It is a site full of name generators. It complements the Dungeon Generator covered in an earlier story.

The categories covered include : Anime/Manga, Art, Beings, Characters, Combat, Darkness/Evil, Equipment, Humor, Magic, Media/Fandom, Names, Organizations, Setting, Superheroes/Sentai, Skills/Abilites/Traits, Technology and Writing. Many of these have multiple generators- there must be at least 50 possibly more.

Say you are a writer and need a few Sci fi Government names- no problems.

  • Blessed and Perfected Temporary Syndicate
  • Brotherhood of Fiefs
  • Cooperative Communist Republic
  • Liberated Imperium of City-States
  • Liberated Principality of States

or perhaps themes for stories. (Don't take these seriously- but they are fun!)

  • This story starts in a nuclear power plant. In it, a seasoned priest works with a cunning chemist. What starts as friendship soon turns into true love.
  • This story takes place in a health spa in Amsterdam. In it, a tireless psychiatrist runs into a gambler with uncanny abilities. What starts as hate unexpectedly turns into true love.

Makes you wonder if the phrase Cunning Linguist will ever occur- Cunning chemist! Finally here are a few ancient Greeks you never heard of. (Obviously from Greek mythology in a parallel universe!)

  • Halybrot
  • Hantesi
  • Hiusenale
  • Nusiaeno
  • Otutus

You can have a lot of fun with this website. Very clever and the creator even explains how he devises generators. As for me, I think I'll have a drink- but so many places to go…

  • The Mug and the Flagon
  • The Priest and Dutchess
  • The Sad Quail's Saloon
  • The Tavern of Eagles
  • The Warrior and Harpy
