Micro Minature Artist - Willard Wigan
Having just bought my 2nd pair of vari-focals (I'm 47), I am gob smacked at the artistry, intricacy and accuracy needed to create artworks on this tiny scale. Yes that is the eye of a needle, and yes that is Tower Bridge within it! The smallest sculptures are thousandths of an inch in size and can sit on a human hair, itself only three thousandths of an inch thick.
Willard Wigan was born in Birmingham, England in 1957 and is the creator of the smallest works of art on earth (Lets not quibble about IBM researchers who draw letters with atoms - that's science not art!). From being an unrecognised dyslexic child, he is now a celebrated micro-miniaturist and is capable of turning a spec of dust into a vision of true beauty.
If you are in Manchester (England), visit his exhibition at Harvey Nicholls in the second floor Restaurant, Bar & Brasserie Gallery
