Kartoo - a Visual Search Engine
Another visual site, done not surprisingly in Flash (the alternatives are Java applets but Flash is more popular), Kartoo has been around for a few years. I searched for portent and was gratified to find at least one story from the site made the first results page!
Kartoo is a meta search engine, drawing results from other search engines. There is an html version but I think the Flash version i more fun and it has more options. Interestingly, it can do wild card searches which is unusual. You can also customise results, add topics, print out results maps. There is some wonderful technology underpinning it, but it has never been a major search engine - more's the shame.
