No, Portent.org hasn’t stopped doing it’s thing. I think I’ve enough websites stocked upnow to do at least half of 2008. Trouble is I also
Yes I do have a life as well, I’m just quite stretched! I just need to manage my time very carefully!
But Happy New Year. I enjoy writing Portent and it will continue!

These things happen. A new job comes along and everything goes to pot. Portent will continue though only possibly not quite as often as before unless anyone wants to help out?
I do enjoy finding new interesting sites and writing them up.

I left my old job on Friday and start a new one tomorrow… at an investment bank in Canary Wharf. So I’ll be back soon, hopefully later today.

A new version of the system software brought problems and I can’t upload any images until one or two problems have been resolved. Hopefully this should be later today.

Apart from one or two occasional posters like Evalena (who is looking for a full time writing job if anyone is interested, contact me - she is Swedish, has had her first English text book published and is fluent in both languages and now lives in London).
But I’d like to increase the number of Portent stories published each day; do you think you could write perhaps one each day? I’d supply the urls and as Portent increased its readership,l you’d benefit financially. If you’re interested, or just want to find out more without commitment, use the contact form above.

I’m in the process of upgrading and having one or two problems so the site may be a bit dodgy for a while.

It’s actually 1012 but I’m trying to count proper posts not just site info updates like this. Way to go….Onwards to 2,000 now…
Keen observers ill notice that there are still 825 in the default category- these came in from the old Pivot blogging system and are shown on site but I haven’t edited all of the and categorised them correctly yet. It all takes time!

I’ve been adding one or two of the WordPress plugins so you’ll see some popularity items as well as the top ten most popular stories- these take a while to settle down.

Nearly at the 1,000 posting mark! Mind you with 60 million websites in existence- according to Netcraft there are 135,166,473 host names of which approximately 60 million are active so that’s a lot still to cover!
I’ve just upgraded to the latest version of WordPress 2.2.3. If you use WordPress on your own site, Keith Dsouza’s plugin for doing upgrades is wonderful. It also creates backups. Make sure you send him some money- it saves an enormous amount of time!

I spent the weekend at a British Mensa annual gathering in London seeing old friends. It’s also a year since Portent launched! HappyBirthday (it was actually August 9th 2006 but never mind).
I’ve actually lost count of the number of stories published but it is well over 900… so 1,000 here we come!

Off until the start of August. See you then!

The previous version of Portent had pictures that were 368 pixels wide which is just a bit big now- the text is squeezed so I’m trying out different sizes to try and get it right.

Same old stuff but please bear with us as it’s changed over to Wordpress. It took a few days to get the old stories imported etc…that’s done- just had to get the pictures imported and now just tidy up the layout etc, add in old links etc.
Note to Pivotlog Users- I really liked Pivotlog - but it was eating up CPU time and my hosting providers were getting upset - this got suspended once.
If you are ever needing to move a Pivot blog to Wordpress import, I recommend the import script here and his Pivot image translation tag (linked off that page). I added two comments for modifying the path it produces. Of course if you feel unable to do this, just send me £50 and I’ll do it for you. (Hey serious offer!)

There were some hosting issues yesterday and the day before. Hopefully we’ll keep those to a minimum.
