Global Terrorism Database
This has two databases, GTD1 and GTD2 with 1 holding a list of events before 1998 and 2 thereafter. It's not exactly the most slickest interface and to view the interactive map for GTD2, you need a browser that supports SVG graphics such as Internet Explorer.
The full dataset for GTD2 won't be handed over until next year but if you're doing research or want to see how many incidents have occurred over the years, this is a pretty good place to look.
Of course the definition of terrorism is a bit nebulous. Is it terrorism if done by soldiers of the state? GTD2 has tried to address this by being as inclusive as possible and letting researchers decide what to include or exclude. GTD1 was devised by Pinkerton Global Information Services and so used their criteria.
