If you've ever received an attachment that you felt uneasy about opening, or found files that you suspect may be detrimental to your system's health this is the website for you. Virustotal lets you upload (or email- max size 10MB) a file to them which they run through a series of virus checkers. It's free as well.
No virus checker is guaranteed to find 100% of viruses (virii?) but a combination of 25 of them has a very good chance to find if a file is infected with a nasty.
