Creative Commons Books
I am a great fan of Creative Commons. This is a principle that people can choose to give away things they have created under a restriction free licence. Not everything need be tied up in restrictive copyright. Much of Shakespeare's work is derived from earlier work and this is a recognised principle.
This site is part of the Creative Commons website and contains books (of 35,000 words or more ) that are given away free. It includes fiction by authors Charles Stross and Cory Doctorow, as well as this one mentioned on Portent before and many others.
