Little Gems- a Tribute to past TV Classics
If you lived in the UK and are over 35 years old then this is the site for you to rfresh memories of long forgotten TV programs. Some of them were shown in the 60s or 70s- “On White Horses”, “Robinson Crusoe”, and “The Flashing Blade” and are quite vivid in my memory, especially after visiting the site.
There’s a mass of information here and pictures as well plus cast lists. This is definitely one that I’d call a labour of love. It alo includes 8 pages of past games. For a big injection of nostalgia… this site is highly recommended.

UCLA Collection of Los Angeles Times Photos
Between 1920 and 1990 the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Daily News took over three million photos. The UCLA Charles E. Young Research Library Department of Special Collections has selected and digitized 5,746 of these and put them online.
They provide a fascinating insight into change and how different things were twenty, fifty, or nearly 100 years ago. You can browse by subject or by keyword. For example the keyword speed produced 17 photos ranging from race cars in 1927, policewoman training in 1946, a hand-held radar demo in 1976 and so on.

RIP Airfix…

From ages 9-14, my childhood was spent building Airfix kits. At one point I had 83 aircraft hanging from my ceiling, mostly 1/72nd WWII but also a few modern aircraft including the Hercules transporter. For a kid with asthma this was probably most unwise, as model aircraft are a dust magnet, but every three months my parents got out the step ladder out and dusted the whole lot. No wonder my wife says I was spoilt!
Sadly Airfix went into receivership yesterday with 31 out of 41 of Humbrol’s employees (the owner of the Airfix brand) laid off. I wonder if the present Govt. will send in people to destroy all plans of the TSR-2 aircraft kit (shown) that was new this year, just like a previous Labour administration did with the real aircraft plans in the early 1960s. (To prevent any chance of a future Conservative Govt resurrecting it)!
