GodChecker - Your Guide to the Gods…

Adverts by Google

Link to GodChecker.comThis is not a website to recommend to those of a monotheistic outlook on life (“One God”). But if you’re into pantheism or just interested this has lots of information on Gods from many cultures- American Indian, Chinese and many more, 154 gods in total, 316 with their alternative names.

There’s also a lot of related stuff such as 578 Saintans and their alternative names, ancient numerology, even Lego Gods. It’s very well done.

One- a Homage to the film 2001 in Lego

Adverts by Google

Link to One on youtubeRecreating the entire 2001 film in Lego would be a massive undertaking and wisely this doesn’t attempt to do that. Instead in just one minute it gives a potted take of the best scenes, e.g. the ape striking the bone which segues into Discovery (not as nice looking as this Lego Discovery!), then the scene where HAL 9000 tries to prevent Dave Bowman from re-entering the ship and the final psychedelic trip voyage and finish in the Hotel room.

However it does play for laughs with digital text on the Monolith “Hit things with Sticks!” and an accurate observation by HAL “I can’t Dave, I’m nuts…”. This is nicely done and very professional looking. It may only last a minute but clearly a lot of time and effort went into making it.

Lego Discovery ship from 2001

Adverts by Google

Link to Lego 2001 Ship photosOne of my favourite films, sadly now proved to be way ahead of its time (Man reaching Jupiter by 2001!) has a space ship called Discovery in it.

This is a detailed model of that space ship in Lego. It took a year to make and is over 6′ long. Be sure to check out the other Lego stuff produced by the author- Logos, trains even Movies! Be sure to check out The Rescue a Lego movie based on an Indiana Jones film with an alternative ending!

30 Seconds- Famous Paintings in Lego

Link to Lego ArtIt’s strange, when you think of art rendered in Lego, sculpting would be the first thing on your mind not painting.

These works by Italian artist Marco (from Turin) in Lego are very good, especially given the limitations of the medium- ie mainly primary colours and chunky. Be sure to check out the scenes in his profile as well.

WII Bowling Lego Robot

Link to Photos of a WII bowling game robot (made of Lego)This is brilliant. Someone created a small robot- well more like a harness, for the Nintendo Wii bowling game using the Lego robotics system Lego Mindstorms. It moves the Wiimote absolutely perfectly so that it can score a perfect 100% (a 300 score!) on the game.

It’s a heck of a way to cheat! You can watch it in operation on the page- there’s a video!

Brick Testament - Illustrating the Bible with Lego

Link to The Brick testamentWell we’ve seen innumerable uses of Lego, from making cars, in pop videos, and a Lego church but on this website, it is used to illustrate the bible and apparently seems very popular.

At first I thought it was a spoof site- with titles like “David mutilates 200- gets Married” or “The Great Pen*s Debate” (Yes that is a letter i lurking behind the *! Think of the filters!) but these scenes are lovingly created with Lego figures and then captioned. The first picture in “Stephen gets Stoned” is brilliant- that man is off his head er…

I’d say this site qualifies for a labour of love- there’s loads of stuff on it. I wonder when the Koran will follow and as for the Karma Sutra.. it’s probably been done in Lego (if you know where- do tell!)

Computer Element Made of Wood

Link to Binary AdderThis is quite clever. In all CPUs there are circuits for doing arithmetic. One is an adder. It er adds numbers. It works in binary (all ones and zeroes). If you add 1 to 1 you 10 (in binary- the equivalent of 2 in decimal). You can read more about adders on wikipedia.

Matthias Wandell is into making things in wood. So he has implemented an adder in wood using marbles. In fact he does a lot of stuff in wood, and his site is an excellent tribute to one of the oldest materials and its uses! Theres a video of the adder in operation on this page as well. It’s very ingenious and not a bad way to demonstrate binary addition.

If you don’t like wood he also has a Lego version and other lego machines on this page.
