Statetris – A game that locates European countries

Adverts by Google

Link to StatetrisThere a number of Flash games where you have to place the States in the correct location in the USA. This one was covered not so long ago on portent.

Something a bit different is combining the idea of locating things (in this case countries) with Tetris to make it more interesting. Countries or small states (Andorra, Lichtenstein etc) fall slowly from the top. Use the cursor keys to rotate and place them correctly. Three levels of difficulty make it more or less challenging.

Map of Europe in the Year 1000 (+Others)

Link to Europe in the Year 1000 MapI love looking at old maps, this is a particularly good one. It’s amazing how many of the major European countries existed then. Also interesting is Spain which is mostly part of the Califate. Islam was spectacularly successful at conquering North Africa, the middle East and most of Spain. It took a lot of fighting for the Spanish to recapture Spain from the ‘Moors’ in the Reconquista which took seven centuries from 722 to 1492.

PS. I have updated the links page to point to a new address which is on a site full of maps going back to the year 100. Definitely worth a look!
