Ask Start!
Seeing that Jeeves (from Ask Jeeves ) has been retired and that website is just Ask.com now, here is a contender to take over from Jeeves. Start is an MIT project that lets you ask questions in English. It then understands the question and tries to answer. Eg. I asked for the "Highest Mountain in Canada?" and it answered Mount Logan.
From trying it out, I find that it's really mainly for factual questions- don't expect it to know the answer to "What is the best website?" And of course limited to what it knows. I asked for "Land area of England" and got the UK, as well as the comment that it is slightly smaller than Oregon. But that aside, it's not bad at answering. It's a bit of an ongoing experiment.
