Possibly the most famous directory of them all stumbled a bit earlier this year. I'm referring to http://dmoz.org. This is a user edited directory of websites which, for a month or two was not adding new websites. There are thousands of other directories but not so many user edited and one of the most promising is AboutUs.Org. In fact I've just added a page myself to it. Portent on AboutUs.org.

Its organised as a wiki and after registering, anyone can edit or add pages about websites they know. So if you have a website – sign up and add it!
