William Pye (Not the WWII US Admiral of that name) is a London based sculptist whose many works are inspired by water, and natural patterns. The roll wave concept uses water flowing over smooth surfaces to create roll wave patterns.
There are many photos and videos of the water sculptures in action, as well as his earlier works- he use acrylic containers so that the water appears to be standing unsupported. Scylla and Charybdis- the two legendary whirlpools are excellent examples of this.
